Barrel Organs in English Parish Churches
Dumb organist labelled on barrel: ‘T.C. BATES & SON, Organ Builders, 6, LUDGATE HILL, LONDON.’ An old label may have been used, as
the organ itself has the nameplate: ‘BATES & SON, Organ Builders, LUDGATE HILL, LONDON’, which was used from 1859 onwards after
the death of Theodore C. Bates.
Tunes recorded in 1999.
One red barrel x 8 tunes labelled ‘No.1’, but there are no others. The tunelist is written on the barrel and initialled T.B. [Theodore Bates]
